Earlier this year, NIBSS reported that by the end of 2022, there were 151 million active bank accounts in the country. However, the latest data for March 2024 indicates a substantial increase of 68.6 million accounts within a span of 15 months. Notably, the figures reveal that by the end of 2023, active bank accounts had already reached 202.6 million, suggesting the opening of approximately 17 million new accounts between January and March 2024 alone.<\/p>\n
In addition, NIBSS highlighted that the number of inactive or dormant bank accounts currently stands at 19.8 million.
