Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, has revealed that he is collaborating with the Federal Government of Nigeria to develop a unified identity technology platform aimed at integrating various data sources.<\/p>\n

Gates made this announcement during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Special Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday. He emphasized the importance of the identity platform in harmonizing data for planning, security, and tax efficiency.<\/p>\n

The identity technology, known as MOSIP (Modular Open Source Identity Platform), is designed to ensure that every Nigerian can access digital benefits. Gates expressed his readiness to provide further support to Nigeria beyond the development of this technology.<\/p>\n

“We are working with Mr. Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, on digitization. Before you came into office, there were a few things attempted in identity management. But they have been very scattered. There have been multiple identification systems,” Gates explained.<\/p>\n

He highlighted the potential applications of the MOSIP ID technology in various government payment programs, enhancing payment efficiency, financial inclusion, and facilitating tax collection.<\/p>\n

President Bola Tinubu, in his remarks during the meeting, reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing in technology to ensure transparency, accountability, and accelerated public-sector performance and service delivery.<\/p>\n

“Technology is the enemy of fraud, corruption, and irregularity. We have been working hard on improving technology. There is always the initial resistance. Corruption, self-interest, and fraudulent activity will always be an enemy, but when you bend that curve, you will receive the benefit. The nation will receive the benefit,” President Tinubu emphasized.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his experience as the former governor of Lagos State, Tinubu emphasized the role of technology in enhancing revenue generation and creating efficient tax systems.<\/p>\n

“When I was governor of Lagos State, I faced challenges. I started with N600 million and ended up with over N8 billion. And right now, they are targeting a trillion naira with the use of technology in the state. There is no other shortcut. We must invest in technology. We must focus, be diligent, and work hard,” President Tinubu stated.<\/p>\n

The collaboration between Bill Gates and the Nigerian government underscores the importance of leveraging technology to address key challenges and drive socio-economic development in the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
