Speaking at LASU&#8217;s 95th inaugural lecture series, Adeoti emphasized the importance of judicious allocation of resources to effectively fulfill the tripartite mission of teaching, research, and community service. He urged VCs to explore alternative funding sources beyond government allocations.<\/p>\n<p>In his lecture titled &#8220;A Historian&#8217;s Perspective on Multi-dimensional Crises in the Management and Funding of University Education in Nigeria,&#8221; Adeoti reflected on the myriad challenges facing Nigeria&#8217;s public universities. He highlighted financial inadequacy as a primary factor contributing to conflicts between university staff unions and the government, citing prolonged disputes such as the ongoing confrontation between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).<\/p>\n<p>Adeoti expressed concern over the detrimental effects of prolonged ASUU strikes, noting that these disruptions hinder the progress and development of higher education. He underscored the need for universities to explore diverse revenue-generation strategies, including tuition fees, remedial programs, endowment funds, alumni engagement, honorary degree programs, and partnerships with public and private entities.<\/p>\n<p>The lecturer emphasized that sustainable funding from various sources is essential to prevent crises and foster the growth of public university education, thereby contributing to nation-building efforts.
