JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this while inspecting UTME centers in Kaduna. He noted that while the majority of the 2024 examinations proceeded smoothly, there were instances of impersonation facilitated by individuals possessing multiple National Identity Numbers (NINs).

Prof. Oloyede emphasized that those engaging in cheating during exams would face consequences, either immediately or later through improved technology measures deployed by JAMB. He highlighted the prevalence of impersonation, citing cases where individuals possessed two NINs, rendering identity verification ineffective. One notable case involved a father impersonating his son during the exam, leading to both being detained by the authorities.

The Registrar cautioned against the repercussions of cheating, questioning the father’s actions in jeopardizing his son’s future. He refrained from disclosing the state where the incident occurred but emphasized the ongoing efforts to apprehend perpetrators using advanced technology and surveillance.

Furthermore, Prof. Oloyede addressed candidates who missed the exams due to personal reasons not attributable to JAMB. He asserted that JAMB couldn’t organize another session for a few candidates at the expense of national resources, especially when logistical issues stemmed from candidates’ negligence or third-party interference.

Regarding challenges faced in conducting UTME, the Registrar highlighted the need for mega Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers, particularly in densely populated areas like Lagos. While lauding the support received from Kaduna State government in providing land for CBT centers accommodating up to 4,000 candidates daily, he urged Lagos authorities to respond similarly to facilitate smoother examination processes.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) revealed that during the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), a father and his son were arrested by the police for impersonation.
