The Nigerian Mainstream And Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMPDRa) has reaffirmed its support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) by granting special concessionary pricing to Mobility CNG. This initiative aims to promote the adoption of CNG-fueled vehicles in Nigeria’s transportation market.<\/p>\n
In a letter dated April 20, 2024, NMPDRA’s Chief Executive, Mr. Farouk Ahmed, designated Mobility CNG as a special status subset of Gas to Commercial (GTC) under the Gas Based Industry (GBI) pricing framework for an initial 5-year period. This designation is renewable for another 5 years under the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.<\/p>\n
The concessionary pricing, set at $1.57\/MMBtu, is considerably lower than standard rates for Power and Commercial buyers. This milestone achievement follows collaborative efforts between PCNGI and NMPDRA and is expected to bolster investor confidence and stimulate commercial activities in the emerging CNG market.<\/p>\n
The Presidential Committee on Compressed Natural Gas, led by Dr. Zacch Adedeji, initially requested strategic gas allocation for Mobility-focused CNG projects, seeking pricing concessions.
