This move comes as part of the company’s commitment to providing a cheaper and environmentally friendly alternative fuel option to motorists nationwide.

In a recent announcement, Nagendra Verma, Managing Director of NIPCO Gas, revealed that four new CNG stations have already been completed and opened for commercial operations in Lagos. These stations, set to commence operations by the end of April, mark the first of their kind in Lagos and signify a significant milestone in the company’s expansion efforts.

Verma emphasized the sustainability of CNG supply, highlighting that AutoGas for cars, taxis, and tricycles will be sold at approximately N200 per standard cubic foot, offering considerable savings compared to the current petrol price of N670 per litre in Abuja.

NIPCO Gas has been actively developing and expanding its CNG network since 2009, starting from Benin City and gradually expanding to other strategic locations such as Ibafo in Ogun State, Ajaokuta, and Okene in Kogi State to cater to the northern regions. The company’s AutoCNG network has since extended to Abuja, Ibadan in Oyo State, and Oron in Akwa Ibom State, demonstrating its commitment to providing accessible and affordable fuel options across the country.

Under a partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), NIPCO Gas plans to construct 35 AutoCNG stations in a phased manner, with locations for 19 CNG stations already identified. The project has received stage-wise approvals from regulatory authorities, with four CNG stations in Lagos expected to be completed by April/May 2024.

This expansion initiative aligns with the government’s mandate to promote alternative fuels and reduce reliance on traditional petrol. By partnering with NNPC, NIPCO Gas aims to contribute to the government’s efforts to transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources while enhancing the welfare of Nigerian motorists.

The introduction of CNG stations nationwide represents a significant step towards achieving energy diversification and promoting environmental sustainability in Nigeria’s transportation sector. As motorists embrace this cost-effective and eco-friendly fuel option, NIPCO Gas remains committed to driving innovation and delivering value to consumers across the country.

NIPCO Gas Limited, a leading player in the energy sector, has embarked on an ambitious plan to construct 35 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations across Nigeria.
