Unknown gunmen struck Sensani Village in Gasol local government area of Taraba State on Thursday night, killing third-class chief Abdulmutalib Nuhu. The tragic incident occurred mere hours before the scheduled Nwonyo Fishing and Cultural Festival, organized by the Taraba State Government in Ibbi local government area.<\/p>\n
Ibbi, the festival’s venue, is the hometown of Hamisu Bala, also known as Wadume, a notorious convicted gunrunner recently released from prison.<\/p>\n
The assailants, arriving around 9 pm, targeted the traditional ruler’s palace, where they fatally shot Nuhu at his residence located a few kilometers from Ibbi. They fled the scene after the attack. Nuhu Sanseni, the slain chief’s elder brother, recounted how the gunmen, armed and riding motorcycles, arrived, killed his brother, and seized his phones. Additionally, they shot and injured a passing motorcyclist before departing the village.<\/p>\n
Despite the unsettling incident, the Taraba State Government assured attendees of the festival of adequate security measures during the event.<\/p>\n
Efforts to track down the perpetrators are underway, with law enforcement officers reportedly on the trail of the assailants. However, as of the time of reporting, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer for the Taraba State Police Command, ASP James Lashen, had yet to provide official information on the matter.<\/p>\n
