The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has deployed a ‘Generation Dip\/Loss Detection System’ (GLDS), designed to detect and respond to sudden drops or dips in power generation across the network.<\/p>\n

This initiative comes in response to the recent grid collapse, which witnessed a drastic reduction in power generation from 2,583.77MW at 2am to 64.7MW around 3am, leading to widespread power outages in several regions. Under the leadership of President Tinubu, this marks the ninth collapse of the national grid.<\/p>\n

Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, revealed in a statement on Wednesday that the GLDS aims to empower the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo by providing advanced tools for real-time monitoring and analysis of grid performance.<\/p>\n

Mbah highlighted the intuitive interface of the GLDS, which allows for parameter settings, continuous monitoring of power generating stations, and comprehensive reporting functionalities, enabling swift responses to grid disturbances.<\/p>\n

“This new innovation stands as a testament to the Transmission Company of Nigeria\u2019s (TCN) commitment to advancing grid management capabilities. GLDS incorporates sophisticated data analytics and machine learning algorithms to analyse real-time data and identify patterns associated with sudden generation loss,” Mbah stated.<\/p>\n

She further explained that the GLDS leverages anomaly detection techniques to promptly alert grid controllers of deviations from normal grid behavior, facilitating proactive intervention to prevent widespread disruptions.<\/p>\n

Prior to the implementation of GLDS, TCN engineers developed an in-house design utilizing IoT technology to address the challenge of limited visibility of power generators. IoT devices deployed across power stations and substations facilitate the collection of near real-time data, including power generation levels and grid performance metrics.<\/p>\n

The deployment of GLDS and IoT devices underscores TCN’s commitment to enhancing grid reliability and preventing future grid collapses, ultimately ensuring a more stable and reliable electricity supply for Nigerians.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
