Despite a recent 18% decline in cocoa exports, Nigerian cocoa producers remain optimistic, projecting a revenue of around $3 billion from their estimated 270,000 tons of output. However, the global market faces a significant shortfall, with European and American customers grappling with a deficit of 650,000 to 700,000 tons.<\/p>\n
In response to this lucrative market gap, Nigeria has seen a remarkable rise in the cost of cocoa per ton at the farm gate, soaring from N1.8 million in December 2023 to N8 million presently. The International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) foresees the global cocoa supply deficit expanding to 374,000 metric tons in the 2023\u201324 season, presenting a golden opportunity for Nigeria to capitalize on by ramping up its cocoa production.<\/p>\n
With the Netherlands being the primary destination for Nigeria’s raw cocoa bean exports, accounting for 39% of total exports, followed by Indonesia and Malaysia, the nation holds a pivotal position in the global cocoa trade.
