The former governor, who is facing allegations of financial mismanagement during his tenure, has been evading authorities in recent weeks.

The EFCC’s attempt to arrest Bello at his Abuja residence was thwarted by external forces, prompting the commission to explore alternative measures. Reports suggest that Bello may be seeking refuge within the Kogi State Government House, under the protection of Governor Ahmed Ododo’s immunity as provided by Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution.

Despite the legal shield provided by immunity, the EFCC remains determined to bring Bello to justice. During court proceedings on Thursday, the EFCC’s Counsel, Mr. Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, affirmed the commission’s resolve to ensure Bello’s appearance in court for trial.

Pinheiro asserted, “We may have to invite the military to move Yahaya Bello out of where he is hiding… Immunity does not cover him where he is hiding. No one is above the law. Immunity covers only the governor and not everyone around him.”

The EFCC’s threat of military intervention underscores the gravity of the situation and the commission’s commitment to upholding the rule of law. As the standoff continues, the pursuit of justice against Bello remains a priority for the EFCC.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has escalated its efforts to apprehend the immediate-past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, who has reportedly been evading arrest.
