Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and their counterparts from the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) made a significant decision on Friday by declining to attend a meeting called by the Federal Government in a last-ditch effort to avert the planned nationwide strike scheduled to commence on October 3.<\/p>\n

According to both labor centers, the government’s invitation arrived too late, as they had previously arranged commitments outside of Abuja, the nation’s capital. The timing of the government’s request clashed with their pre-scheduled engagements, leaving them unable to attend the meeting.<\/p>\n

The government had issued an emergency summons to the leaders of the NLC and TUC on Friday, hoping to persuade Organized Labour and its allies to reconsider the impending industrial action.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate that the meeting, initially slated for noon at Aso Villa, the Conference Room of the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, was postponed to the evening to accommodate the leaders of NLC and TUC, who were located outside of Abuja.<\/p>\n
