The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mohamed Buba Marwa, has highlighted the agency’s significant achievements in combating drug trafficking and abuse, sending a clear message to drug cartels that Nigeria will not tolerate their criminal activities.<\/p>\n
Addressing attendees at a ceremony in Lagos, Marwa emphasized the agency’s commitment to reform and partnership with the UK, which has contributed to substantial progress in the past three years. He announced impressive statistics, including the arrest of 50,901 drug offenders, the prosecution and conviction of 9,034 individuals, and the seizure of over 7,561 tonnes of illicit substances.<\/p>\n
Marwa underscored the agency’s unwavering determination to hold drug offenders accountable and disrupt criminal networks involved in drug distribution. He also highlighted efforts to combat illicit drug crop cultivation, with the destruction of over 1,057 hectares of cannabis farms.<\/p>\n
Acknowledging the support of the British Government, Marwa called for the continued strengthening of partnership between Nigeria and the UK in the fight against drug-related crimes. He emphasized that despite the achievements, the battle against illicit drugs is ongoing, urging renewed efforts and collaboration for a safer future.<\/p>\n
British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Jonny Baxter, affirmed the UK government’s commitment to supporting NDLEA and Nigeria in addressing the global challenge of drug trafficking.
