The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced significant progress in its efforts to recover stolen funds from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development. In a statement released by its spokesman, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC disclosed that it has retrieved N32.7 billion and $445,000 linked to alleged financial misappropriation in the ministry.<\/p>\n
The statement addressed the increasing public discourse surrounding the investigations into the alleged fraud. It clarified that past and suspended officials of the Humanitarian Ministry have been summoned for questioning, resulting in the recovery of substantial sums.<\/p>\n
According to Oyewale, the EFCC’s discreet investigations have uncovered further fraudulent activities related to Covid-19 funds, the World Bank loan, and Abacha recovered loot allocated to the ministry for poverty alleviation initiatives. Several interdicted and suspended officials have been implicated in the financial malfeasance.<\/p>\n
The EFCC emphasized that its investigations target systemic corruption rather than individual wrongdoings. Banks implicated in the alleged fraud are also under scrutiny, with managing directors providing valuable information to investigators. Those found culpable will face prosecution accordingly.<\/p>\n
