{"id":26152,"date":"2024-04-05T12:45:17","date_gmt":"2024-04-05T12:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=26152"},"modified":"2024-04-05T12:45:17","modified_gmt":"2024-04-05T12:45:17","slug":"ig-141-terror-cases-214-kidnappings-in-8-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/04\/05\/ig-141-terror-cases-214-kidnappings-in-8-weeks\/","title":{"rendered":"IG: 141 Terror Cases, 214 Kidnappings in 8 Weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Olukayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, announced on Thursday that over the previous eight weeks, the police had received reports of 141 terror incidents, 214 kidnappings, and 537 homicide cases.<\/p>\n<p>Egbetokun stated that 401 abduction victims were freed, while 3,685 suspects were arrested for their roles in a number of crimes.<\/p>\n<p>While responding to media inquiries at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, located in Louis Edet House, Abuja, Egbetokun made these remarks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am pleased to report a significant advancement following our last conference on February 8, 2024, driven by the execution of diverse strategies aimed at mitigating the escalating trend of criminal activities across the nation,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the last eight weeks, we have documented 141 cases of terrorism\/secessionist attacks, 537 cases of murder, 126 cases of armed robbery, 214 cases of kidnapping, and 39 cases of illicit firearm ownership.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Also, during the period under review, the Nigeria Police Force arrested 3,685 suspects for their involvement in various crimes, rescued 401 kidnapping victims, recovered 216 firearms, 3,601 ammunition, and 82 vehicles.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have in the last nine months cumulatively presented cheques totaling N7,263,391,051.73 to 2,5143 families of deceased police officers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The IG stated that the police will continue to strive for excellence by being more proactive in their policing strategy.<\/p>\n<p>He stated, &#8220;Our responses to current internal security threats necessitate strategic deployments that are not only proactive but also technology and intelligence-driven.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through rigorous analysis of existing information, we will attempt to anticipate criminal activity, destroy their illicit networks, and catch culprits quickly.
