Controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, will be arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos today by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).<\/p>\n
On Thursday, the EFCC filed six counts against Bobrisky, including charges related to money laundering and abuse of the naira. The arraignment will take place before vacation judge Justice Abimbola Awogboro.<\/p>\n
In the charge sheet prepared by EFCC prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) and seven other lawyers, Bobrisky is accused of tampering with sums of money while spraying them during social events. These events allegedly took place at various locations, including the IMAX Circle Mall in Lekki, Aja Junction in Ikorodu, and the White Steve Event Hall in Ikeja, among others.<\/p>\n
The charges also involve Bobrisky’s failure to submit declarations of activities for his company, Bob Express, during certain periods, despite substantial sums being paid into the company’s Ecobank account. The EFCC alleges that these actions violate Sections 6(1)(a) and 19(1)(f) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.<\/p>\n
Bobrisky has been in EFCC detention since Wednesday night but failed to meet the administrative bail conditions set on Thursday. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that Bobrisky had been granted administrative bail but had not met the conditions.<\/p>\n
Earlier statements from the EFCC highlighted Bobrisky’s arrest for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of currency, and currency mutilation. The EFCC emphasized its commitment to upholding the integrity of the national currency and stated that Bobrisky would be charged to court soon.<\/p>\n
According to a statement titled “EFCC Grills Bobrisky for Naira Abuse” posted on the agency’s social media, EFCC operatives initiated an investigation into Bobrisky’s actions following reports of him spraying and flaunting Naira notes at a movie premiere in Lekki. Investigations revealed similar incidents at other events.<\/p>\n
