A newly constituted Inter-agency Joint Task Force (JTF), under the supervision of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali-Biu, has successfully intercepted 35 trailers carrying a total of 982 passengers along critical corridors.<\/p>\n
According to a statement released by the Corps Public Education Officer, Jonas Agwu, the special intervention patrol operations led to the apprehension of 19 trailers transporting 810 individuals on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway. These trailers were subsequently forwarded to the national headquarters for further action.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the JTF team operating along the Bauchi-Maiduguri route arrested 16 trailers carrying 172 passengers during the first week of its operations, spanning from March 23 to March 30, 2024.<\/p>\n
At the time of arrest, the inter-agency JTF ensured the safe disembarkation of all passengers from the trailers. They also provided necessary warnings against the dangerous practice and encouraged passengers to utilize designated passenger vehicles for their transportation needs.<\/p>\n
In response to these violations, the Corps Marshal has directed sector commanders in states with notable incidents to continue engaging with road transport unions and owners of articulated vehicles.
