A group, the Concerned Igbo Citizens Council (CICC), has urged the Federal Government to fulfill President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s promised commitment to a free society by approving the unconditional release of all pro-Biafra activists and other Nigerians incarcerated for self-determination agitations. In a statement signed by its interim National Coordinator and interim National Secretary, the group emphasized the need for parity in treatment, pointing to the recent release of pro-Odua Republic agitator Sunday Igboho and activist Omoyele Sowore as commendable but insisted that the same gesture must be extended to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others detained for similar activities. CICC highlighted the disparity in treatment between Igbo and Yoruba activists, calling on relevant authorities to investigate and compile a comprehensive list of those affected by self-determination agitations nationwide.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, CICC underscored the urgency of the situation, urging President Tinubu to extend the amnesty granted to Igboho and Sowore to other Yoruba youths supporting their cause. The group stressed that detaining supporters of Igboho and Sowore while absolving the principal actors of wrongdoing constitutes criminal injustice. They demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Kanu and all Igbo and Eastern Nigerian youths detained for belonging to or supporting the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). CICC also called on various governmental and non-governmental bodies to compile and publish a comprehensive list of those affected by self-determination agitations, emphasizing its commitment to mobilizing Nigerians across ethnic lines to assert their rights to a free society.
