Led by Dr. Bodunrin Osikomaiya, the Executive Secretary of LSBTS, the training encompassed medical doctors and laboratory scientists from both public and private healthcare sectors. Participants were equipped with essential skills ranging from blood donor mobilization and conversion to the clinical application of blood products, alongside emphasizing the pivotal role of laboratories in upholding blood safety standards.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Osikomaiya emphasized the broad spectrum of medical specialties represented in the training, encompassing surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and emergency medicine. This comprehensive approach underscores LSBTS&#8217;s commitment to bolstering healthcare service delivery through skill enhancement among healthcare providers. Moreover, aligning with international best practices, the training serves as a cornerstone activity evaluated during regulatory visits by the state&#8217;s blood monitoring and enforcement sub-committee, ensuring adherence to stringent standards.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to professional development initiatives, LSBTS has actively pursued initiatives to improve blood transfusion accessibility for residents, as demonstrated by subsidizing transfusion fees last December. Dr. Osikomaiya disclosed this during a stakeholder engagement and media chat themed &#8216;Role of Media in Promoting Blood Donation,&#8217; held in commemoration of the 2023 National Blood Donor Day.
