In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, signed by the LP’s national chairman and secretary, Julius Abure and Umar Ibrahim, the party formally informed the commission of the change in venue.<\/p>\n

Explaining the rationale behind the decision, a top party official revealed that the initial choice of Umuahia was marred by concerns over possible disturbances by a faction within the party known as the ‘Obidients.’ The shift to Anambra, specifically Nnewi, was also seen as a nod to honor Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n

However, the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, refuted claims that the change in venue was solely due to fears of disruption, suggesting that logistical constraints also played a role.<\/p>\n
