The Lagos State Government is considering sanctioning Mega Plastic, located in Ilupeju bypass, Mushin, Lagos, for failing to install a water hydrant around a section of their facility that was engulfed in a recent fire outbreak, according to Margaret Adeseye, Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS).<\/p>\n

The fire incident was reported at 7:26 a.m. yesterday.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The blaze’s intensity persisted due to the presence of chemical substances within the affected area. It wasn’t until approximately 4 p.m. that the LSFRS was able to completely extinguish the fire in the warehouse. However, the flames continued to burn within six containers stacked atop each other, which contained various chemical products.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Despite deploying numerous tanks and mobilizing five fire stations, including Ilupeju, Bolade, and Alausa Fire Stations, the fire remained a threat due to the involvement of petrochemical products. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported as a result of the incident.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Lagos State Government is now considering taking punitive measures against Mega Plastic for their failure to have adequate fire safety measures in place, including the absence of a fire hydrant around the affected area.<\/p>\n
