The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has inaugurated the steering committee for the Nigeria Digital Identification for Development (ID4D) World Bank Project, In a move aimed at enhancing digital access and bolstering Nigeria’s digital economy.<\/p>\n
Led by Akume, the committee comprises key government officials and stakeholders tasked with shaping the strategic direction, policies, and frameworks necessary for the successful implementation of the digital identification initiative.<\/p>\n
Under the leadership of Abisoye Coker-Odusote, Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the committee will work towards enrolling every Nigerian on the digital identification system. This move is expected to streamline access to services, improve service delivery, and propel the nation’s digital economy forward.<\/p>\n
The establishment of the steering committee underscores the government’s commitment to expedite the implementation of the project’s strategic roadmap. This roadmap includes the creation of a three-tiered institutional framework within the NIMC, consisting of a steering committee, strategic unit, and implementation unit.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the importance of digital identity, the SGF emphasized the mandatory use of the National Identification Number (NIN) for digital services, reflecting the administration’s dedication to advancing digital initiatives.<\/p>\n
In her remarks, Coker-Odusote emphasized the committee’s role in fostering collaboration, innovation, and progress in leveraging digital technology for socio-economic development. The committee aims to empower individuals and promote inclusive growth through digital initiatives.<\/p>\n
