The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported a tragic incident on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, where a DAF trailer accident resulted in the loss of at least 10 lives and left 48 passengers injured.<\/p>\n
Jonas Agwu, the Corps Public Education Officer, conveyed in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja that the fatal crash occurred on Monday due to a combination of factors including excessive speed, overloading, and driver fatigue.<\/p>\n
The mishap unfolded when the driver lost control of the vehicle’s wheels, causing it to veer off the road and plunge into a ditch around 10:30hrs. Shockingly, all 172 male passengers aboard the trailer were affected by the accident.<\/p>\n
Agwu revealed that despite the prompt response of FRSC rescue teams, 10 passengers succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while 48 others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured were swiftly evacuated to St. Anthony and Umaru Musa Yar\u2019Adua hospitals in Kaduna for urgent medical attention.<\/p>\n
In emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Agwu quoted the Corps Marshal, Mr. Dauda Ali-Biu, urging all sector commanders to intensify nationwide enforcement and advocacy campaigns against speeding, overloading, and reckless driving. Additionally, Ali-Biu emphasized the need to caution trailer drivers against the perilous practice of transporting human beings atop goods in their vehicles.<\/p>\n
