Mr. Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), issued a stern warning to the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in an address following the inauguration of the Chairman, Commissioners of the FCT Civil Service Commission, FCT Head of Service, and Permanent Secretaries in Abuja. He highlighted the need of excellent performance, stating that failing to achieve expectations would result in dismissal.<\/p>\n
Addressing the newly inaugurated officials on Monday, Wike highlighted the non-political nature of their roles as permanent secretaries, stressing the consequences of underperformance. “If you perform below our expectations, there is nothing like querying you in accordance with civil service rules,” he asserted, bluntly stating, “We have no time for that. We will just send you packing as permanent secretary.”<\/p>\n
Expressing his expectations clearly, Wike underscored the urgency of efficient service delivery, stating, “I don\u2019t want to hear that files are unduly delayed.” He urged the officials to throw their weight behind the administration’s agenda, particularly emphasizing support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Wike reminded FCT workers of the longstanding struggle for the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission since the law’s enactment in 2018. He credited President Tinubu for actualizing this dream and urged workers to reciprocate by demonstrating commitment to the success of the administration.<\/p>\n
Highlighting upcoming changes, Wike disclosed that the newly inaugurated Head of Service would oversee the reshuffling of directors through posting letters. Additionally, he called upon the Coordinators of Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abuja Municipal Management Council (AMMC), and Abuja Infrastructure Investment Council (AIIC) to fulfill their duties diligently.<\/p>\n
Specifically addressing the STDD coordinator, Wike urged close attention to developments in area councils in alignment with President Tinubu’s directives.
