It further claimed that Abure had attempted to unilaterally extend his tenure by two years in April 2023, but was thwarted by party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who insisted on following due process.<\/p>\n

Describing the planned convention as illegal, the NLC’s Political Commission called for Abure’s immediate resignation and the constitution of a caretaker transition committee to organize a legitimate and inclusive national convention.<\/p>\n
