The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intensified its legal pursuit against Abiodun Agbele, an associate of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, by increasing the charges against him from 11 to 24.<\/p>\n
Initially arraigned in 2016 alongside other defendants on 11 counts of money laundering totaling N1.219 billion, the amended charges now list Agbele and several companies as defendants.<\/p>\n
The EFCC accuses Agbele of indirectly receiving cash from former Minister of Defence for State, Musliu Obanikoro, on behalf of Fayose without going through a financial institution.<\/p>\n
During the proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, a former Central Bank of Nigeria official, Aliyu Mukadas, testified that a total sum of N4.15 billion was paid to Sylvan Mcnamara Limited’s account, corroborating previous statements made by Obanikoro.<\/p>\n
Mukadas revealed that payments were made to Sylvan Mcnamara Limited in tranches through Diamond Bank, clarifying that the account maintained by the National Security Adviser at the CBN was meant for security operations, not elections.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, another witness, former Zenith Bank CEO Peter Amagbo, denied allegations of bank funding for Fayose’s re-election campaign, stating that the bank had a pre-existing relationship with the state that continued during Fayose’s tenure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
