The controversy surrounding the candidacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 2024 gubernatorial election took a new turn yesterday as one of the aspirants, Hon. Anamero Sunday Dekeri, initiated legal action at the Federal High Court in Abuja.<\/p>\n
Dekeri, in suit No. FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/299\/2024, is seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC to recognize him as the rightful winner of the February 17, 2024, gubernatorial primary election.<\/p>\n
Following the continuation of the primaries after its suspension, the APC national leadership declared Senator Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the primary election on February 22. However, Dekeri had been proclaimed the winner of the primary election by the local government returning officers.<\/p>\n
According to Mr. Ojo Babatunde, the council officer who collated the results from the polling units, Dekeri emerged victorious with 25,384 votes, defeating his closest rival, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who garnered 14,127 votes.<\/p>\n
Dekeri’s legal team, comprising Joseph Nwobike, SAN, Chief Henry Akunebo, SAN, and ten others, argued that the declaration of Okpebholo as the winner of the rescheduled primary election on February 22, 2024, and as the APC candidate, is invalid, wrongful, and illegal.
