Amidst growing concerns about fairness and representation, a socio-political group operating under the banner of the Centre for Transparency and Good Governance (CTGG) has intensified calls for the equitable allocation of political offices to the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The group emphasizes that such equitable distribution of political offices is essential for bolstering democracy and enhancing citizens’ confidence in the government. They have raised alarms over perceived irregularities within the government led by President Bola Tinubu, urging corrective measures to uphold principles of equity and fairness.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the National Coordinator of CTGG, Barrister Ishaq Dauda, highlighted observed infractions on critical provisions of the Act of Parliament that established the Federal Character Commission (FCC).<\/p>\n
Specifically, the Transparency Group pointed out lopsided appointments within the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), leaving the North-Central geopolitical zone at a disadvantage. They allege that other zones have disproportionately benefited from leadership positions within the agency, which they claim are politically motivated.<\/p>\n
In light of these disparities, the group appeals to President Tinubu to demonstrate magnanimity by appointing a substantive Managing Director\/CEO of REA from the North-Central Zone of Nigeria. They stress that the zone has not produced the agency’s CEO since its inception, underscoring the need for corrective action.<\/p>\n
