The Nigerian government has implemented 80 new regulations to improve the safety and efficiency of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles and related components. Ifeanyi Okeke, Director-General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), made the statement at an unveiling ceremony in Abuja on Monday.<\/p>\n
These standards, a crucial aspect of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), mark a concerted effort to establish a robust framework for the adoption and utilization of CNG across the nation. Okeke emphasized that these approved standards encompass a wide range of elements crucial to CNG utilization, including production, storage, transportation, and appliance compatibility.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the significance of adhering to these standards, Okeke reiterated that CNG represents a clean and viable alternative to conventional fuels. However, he emphasized that ensuring its effective utilization necessitates strict adherence to rigorous standards addressing various stages of the CNG supply chain.<\/p>\n
“The 80 approved standards cover various aspects of CNG utilization, including production, storage, transportation, and appliance compatibility,” stated Okeke. He underscored the importance of these standards in fostering safer CNG usage, reducing environmental impact, and promoting cost savings.<\/p>\n
Echoing Okeke’s sentiments, Michael Oluwagbemi, the Chief Executive Officer of PCNGI, emphasized the meticulous development of these standards in alignment with global best practices.
