Actor Rita Dominic has revealed that she faced a silent ban within the Nollywood movie industry during the era of video compact discs (VCD). She shared this revelation in an interview with Ghanaian host Lexis Bill, highlighting that it was the VCD era that prompted her decision to establish her own production company.<\/p>\n
In response to Bill’s inquiry about the most significant challenge in her career, Rita explained, “I’m just going to mention one. Before I decided to become a producer and co-form the Audrey Silva Company, I was silently banned from the industry by the marketers.”<\/p>\n
During the VCD era, marketers wielded substantial power, serving as decision-makers and influential figures in the industry. Rita expressed that her desire to bring about change and handle negotiations differently led to a silent ban orchestrated by these influential marketers.<\/p>\n
“The marketers were the ones who had the power to call the shots, they were the lords, the mini-gods at the time, particularly during the VCD era. They banned me silently because I wanted to do things differently. I just felt like it had gotten to a point where if you want to acquire the services of an actor, it’s best to talk to their management.”<\/p>\n
Rita elaborated on her efforts to revamp her brand and manage negotiations more efficiently. However, her decision to involve a manager for negotiations did not sit well with the marketers, resulting in the silent ban.<\/p>\n
“It wasn’t a vocal ban, and how did I know?
