Addressing the issue in Umuahia, the State capital, she reaffirmed the government&#8217;s commitment to safeguarding every Abia girl-child from violence and sexual exploitation.<\/p>\n<p>In light of the imminent celebration of the 2024 International Women\u2019s Day, Mrs. Otti decried the exploitation of innocent girls for selfish gains by nefarious individuals. She expressed her dismay, stating, \u201cOn a day when the world celebrates the remarkable achievements of women, it is disheartening to know that a few individuals are working to undermine our efforts to showcase the positive contributions of Abia women.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The First Lady vehemently condemned the existence of baby factories in Abia State, where young girls are exploited, forced into pregnancy, and have their babies forcefully taken from them for profit. She highlighted the grave health risks and dangers faced by these girls, including exposure to HIV and other STDs.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Otti emphasized the vulnerabilities of these girls due to economic challenges and lack of adequate education, reiterating the government&#8217;s commitment to providing skills acquisition training to empower them.<\/p>\n<p>Assuring continuous support, she pledged her office&#8217;s commitment to providing training opportunities for girls until they are gainfully employed and empowered to resist such exploitative situations.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Mrs. Otti promised collaboration with relevant government agencies to hold perpetrators of abuse against Abia girls accountable. She stressed the destructive nature of such practices, emphasizing the importance of preserving womanhood and culture.<\/p>\n<p>Calling on Abia citizens to remain vigilant, Mrs. Otti urged them to report any suspicious activity to the police or the Gender-Based Violence office. She commended the Abia State Police Command for their swift response in rescuing the girls and apprehending suspects.<\/p>\n<p>The recent discovery echoes previous instances, including the uncovering of a baby factory in 2016 in Aba and a similar raid in Anambra State in February 2024.
