President Bola Tinubu has unequivocally condemned the recent surge in military coups across Africa.<\/p>\n

President Tinubu, during his inaugural address at the UN General Assembly, expressed strong disapproval of military takeovers and cautioned against the emergence of authoritarian civilian governments. He stressed that democratic governance remains the most effective safeguard of the people’s sovereign will and overall well-being.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must affirm democratic governance as the best guarantor of the sovereign will and well-being of the people. Military coups are wrong, as is any tilted civilian political arrangement that perpetuates injustice,\u201d Tinubu said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In the year 2023 alone, military interventions led to the overthrow of democratically elected governments in Niger and Gabon, affecting the leadership of President Mohamed Bazzoum and President Ali Bongo, respectively.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Nigerian leader argued that \u201cthe wave crossing parts of Africa does not demonstrate favour towards coups. It is a demand for solutions to perennial problems.<\/p>\n
