Laolu Akande, a former aide to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has demanded accountability and punishment for those responsible for the printing of N22.7 trillion during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Channels Television, Akande denounced the printing of such a substantial sum as an “economic calamity” and stressed the imperative for legal consequences to be faced by those involved.<\/p>\n
He emphasized, “Everyone that is involved in this calamity, which is an economic calamity, They must be made to answer in court. We don\u2019t want a situation where the case has died; it is going to repeat itself.”<\/p>\n
While acknowledging that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) decision to grant Ways and Means to the Nigerian government was not inherently negative, Akande underscored the necessity of preventing similar occurrences in the future.<\/p>\n
Expressing concern over the lack of awareness regarding the severity of the economic situation during Buhari’s administration, Akande highlighted the crucial need for accountability and transparency in monetary policy decisions.<\/p>\n
This call for accountability comes in the wake of previous resolutions by the Senate to investigate the utilization of N30 trillion ($66 billion) in Ways and Means funding during the Buhari administration.
