The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed growing dissatisfaction with the perceived lack of progress in addressing the economic issues caused by the elimination of gasoline subsidies. This dissatisfaction stems from a recent meeting with government officials that resulted in a stalemate, prompting fears about a possible prolonged strike.<\/p>\n
On Channels Television<\/em>‘s “Politics Today,” NLC President Joe Ajaero expressed the labour union’s worries, noting the government’s apparent reluctance to meet numerous crucial demands.<\/p>\n Among the NLC’s key demands are addressing the negative effects of rising petrol prices, reviewing the minimum wage, developing a viable roadmap for the adoption of compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative energy source, modernising the country’s refineries and settling salary arrears owed to lecturers.<\/p>\n The labor union contends that these demands are essential to mitigate the economic hardships faced by Nigerian citizens due to the fuel subsidy removal. The move has led to rising fuel costs and increased living expenses, prompting widespread calls for comprehensive measures to alleviate the burden on the populace.<\/p>\n \u201cThey have not made any efforts on any issue,\u201d Ajaero asserted.<\/p>\n “Even the issue as simple as cash transfer or bringing buses on the road, nothing has happened to them. So, it\u2019s a lack of willingness and we can\u2019t muddle up all these issues.<\/p>\n \u201cThen you call a minimum wage as wage award.
