Panic ensued at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos late Thursday following an electrical short circuit incident at the E Wing of the old terminal, resulting in an electrical spark emanating from the ceiling of the E arrival hall.<\/p>\n
In response to the incident, authorities swiftly switched off the power supply to the affected section of the airport to prevent any further escalation. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), confirmed the incident, stating that the engineering department promptly mobilized to identify the source of the spark. The suspected cable responsible for the short circuit was swiftly cut to stop the power flow.<\/p>\n
Orah reassured the public that the incident lasted for only a few minutes and that normalcy was restored without any disruption to airport operations. This incident occurred just a day after a temporary fire outbreak at the MMIA, which also caused panic among workers and passengers. Eyewitnesses reported that travelers hastily evacuated the departure hall engulfed by smoke, but firefighters promptly extinguished the fire, and normal operations resumed at the terminal.<\/p>\n
