The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, has urged youths in Jigawa State to embrace Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills to drive the nation’s digital economy. Inuwa made this call during the flag-off ceremony of a capacity building training program for 1000 youths in the state, sponsored by the Jigawa State government.<\/p>\n
The training program, organized through collaboration between the Jigawa State government, NITDA, Base University, and IDEAS, aims to empower youths with ICT skills to explore economic opportunities for accelerated development in the state. Inuwa emphasized the importance of ICT skills for sustainable development and self-reliance, noting that the world is shifting towards skills-based qualifications for success.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the significance of the training, Inuwa stated that it would enable Jigawa State to regain its position as a leading state in the ICT sector of Nigeria, as seen in the early 2000s. He reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to partnering with state governments across the country to promote digital literacy and drive the national digital economy to combat poverty-related challenges.<\/p>\n
Governor Umar Namadi, represented by the state’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Usman Gumel, commended NITDA for its intervention programs in the state, which have contributed to the state’s achievements within a short period. Other speakers at the event, including the Director General of Jigawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment and Employment, Dr. Habibu Ubale, and representatives from collaborating organizations, emphasized the importance of providing ICT skills to youths for sustainable economic development.<\/p>\n
The training program, focusing on areas such as Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Software Development, aims to cultivate young talents who will lead digital development efforts in Jigawa State and Nigeria as a whole.
