ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, disclosed this information during a press conference held in Abuja.

The arrests, made by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), resulted from an intelligence report received on January 16, detailing the activities of the “one chance” robbers in various areas of the FCT, including Gwagwalada, Area 1, AYA, Giri, and Wuse.

According to Adejobi, the suspects, comprising seven females and four males, were apprehended on February 19 at their hideout in the Karmo area of the FCT. Among the items recovered from them were a POS machine and a Mazda Saloon car bearing registration number KUJ 887 BQ.

Detailing the modus operandi of the suspects, Adejobi explained that they would strategically position themselves in a car, ensuring that one member occupied the front seat with the driver while four others sat in the back. Upon luring a victim into the vehicle, they would distract them, steal their belongings, and swiftly escape, leaving the victim unaware of the theft until it was too late.

Furthermore, Adejobi revealed another successful operation where 10 suspects were arrested on February 9 for criminal conspiracy, transborder gunrunning, and illegal fabrication of firearms. The police recovered two AK-47 rifles, nine automatic pistols, and 1,800 rounds of live ammunition from the suspects.

Investigations uncovered a syndicate of transborder gunrunners operating from Plateau to other parts of the country, with connections to supplying arms and ammunition to criminal elements beyond Nigeria’s borders.

In addition to these arrests, the police have also apprehended numerous suspects involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, and cultism over the past two weeks. These operations resulted in the rescue of 35 kidnapped victims, the recovery of seven stolen vehicles, and the confiscation of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.

The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended 11 suspects allegedly involved in the notorious “one chance” robbery scheme in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
