The Federal Government has taken a decisive step to address the persistent power outages plaguing the nation by summoning the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).<\/p>\n
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Minister of Power, Chief Bayo Adelabu said “<\/span><\/span>I am deeply concerned about the worsening electricity supply across the country. To tackle this pressing issue, I have convened a crucial meeting with the Chief Executives of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), and the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).”<\/p>\n He said further, “The purpose of this meeting is to address the deteriorating power supply in their respective regions and collectively find lasting solutions. Despite recent efforts to improve the situation, the decline in power supply remains disheartening. While generation has increased to over 4000MW, certain distribution companies are failing to efficiently distribute power, compounded by vandalism of power infrastructure in regions such as Abuja, Benin, Port Harcourt, and Ibadan.<\/p>\n “Moving forward, I am committed to holding all distribution companies accountable for their performance. Willful non-performance will not be tolerated, and severe consequences, including license revocation, may be imposed. Additionally, TCN has been instructed to prioritize repair works on damaged transmission infrastructure to enhance supply in affected regions.<\/p>\n “Having witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by the sector during recent supervisory visits to power generating plants, plans are underway to settle outstanding debts owed to power generation and gas supply companies. This will alleviate financial strain and contribute to improved generation levels nationwide.<\/p>\n “I urge electricity consumers to remain patient as we work tirelessly to address these issues and provide better service to all Nigerians.
