The Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have agreed to continue discussions on post-subsidy removal palliatives in order to satisfy the concerns of Nigerian workers and prevent a planned walkout. This commitment comes before the NLC’s 21-day ultimatum expires.<\/p>\n
Mr. Simon Lalong, Minister of Labour and Employment, announced the decision to extend negotiations and find solutions to the fundamental concerns of organised labour. He made this declaration following a private meeting with the NLC in Abuja.<\/p>\n
The minister called the conference in an effort to prevent the upcoming organised labour strike and discuss other urgent matters. On September 1, the NLC had threatened to go on strike.<\/p>\n
According to him, we had a fruitful discussions on many of the items, that the NLC had been tabled previously before the Federal Government.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany of the items presented by Labour were still under consideration before the final agreement,\u201dhe said.<\/p>\n
