The chairman of the Children of Drivers and Fishermen Association (CODAFA), Akpeja Diden, has strongly denounced the recent attack on members of the association and the community during the visit of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, to Okere community in Warri South local government area of Delta State. The visit was part of activities marking the end of the Okere community royal palace guard\/watch.<\/p>\n
In a press release issued yesterday, Akpeja Romeo Diden and Akpeja Blessing Okotie, chairman and secretary of CODAFA respectively, condemned the violence perpetrated against community members, including the secretary of the association, who had gathered to celebrate with Okere community. Akpeja Diden labeled the attack an aberration and stressed that such behavior by a few unruly individuals within the kingdom would no longer be tolerated.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is only one king in Warri Kingdom, and everyone must come under his authority. Therefore, whoever feels too big to submit to his authority can create his own kingdom,\u201d Akpeja Diden stated emphatically.<\/p>\n
The visit of Ogiame Atuwatse III to Okere community, which has been guarding the palace of the Olu of Warri since December 2023, was significant. The community is set to hand over the baton to another community later this month as part of the royal change of guard ceremony.<\/p>\n
Following the customary prayers and blessings offered by the monarch, a peaceful reception was held.
