The Federal Government has underscored the importance of diversifying the country’s energy mix to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a strategy to generate more employment opportunities and wealth for Nigerians. Mr. Joseph Osanipin, the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), reiterated this commitment during the Critique\/Validation Workshop held for the recently developed National Occupational Standard (NOS) in Keffi.<\/p>\n
The NOS in question focuses on the conversion, calibration, and maintenance of CNG\/autogas-powered vehicles, as well as electric vehicles service and maintenance in Nigeria. Mr. Osanipin emphasized that the development of this NOS reflects NADDC’s ongoing efforts to enhance skills development and upgrade in the automotive sector.<\/p>\n
NADDC actively promotes the adoption of CNG\/Auto Gas-Powered and Electric vehicles in Nigeria, fostering an enabling environment for their growth. This strategic shift aims to reduce reliance on petrol and diesel, addressing environmental concerns such as greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, it serves as a means of economic diversification, poised to generate more job opportunities and contribute to wealth creation for Nigerians.<\/p>\n
The workshop convened to validate the NOS sought input from relevant stakeholders to ensure the document aligns with international standards and propels the auto sector to a globally competitive position. Mr. Osanipin highlighted that the fully operational framework will cater to diverse segments of the population, including out-of-school children, working adults, graduates, and apprentices in both formal and non-formal settings, providing them with skill acquisition and competency.<\/p>\n
