The Kaduna State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kabir Nadabo, has reported a tragic road crash along the Zaria-Kano expressway, resulting in the death of at least 12 individuals and leaving 28 others injured. The incident occurred at Tashar Yari village at 7:36 am on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to Nadabo’s statement to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna, the involved vehicle was a trailer with the registration number KTG 454 ZZ, en route to Kano when the crash transpired. The primary causes identified were wrongful overtaking, speeding, and overloading, culminating in the unfortunate and significant loss of lives.<\/p>\n
Nadabo further disclosed that the Chairman of Makarfi Local Government and the Unit Commander at Tashar Yari were present at the scene to assess the situation. The investigation revealed that a total of 40 people were involved, with 28 sustaining injuries and 12 losing their lives.<\/p>\n
The injured individuals were promptly transported to the Makarfi General Hospital for necessary medical attention. The owner of the vehicle, residing in Azare, Bauchi State, has been notified and directed to report to the Kaduna Sector Command. Unfortunately, the driver of the trailer was reported to be among the deceased.<\/p>\n
Expressing the avoidable nature of the accident, Nadabo emphasized the FRSC’s commitment to engage stakeholders, particularly transport unions. Their goal is to continuously educate and sensitize drivers about the perils of speeding, overloading, dangerous driving practices, and the use of cellphones while driving.<\/p>\n
Nadabo concluded by urging motorists to adopt a culture of safe driving, especially on highways.
