At the 7th Nigerian International Energy Summit in Abuja, Shell emphasized the need for Africa to harness its energy potential through partnerships, technological innovation, and sustainable financing to drive energy security, transition, and economic prosperity.<\/p>\n

Osagie Okunbor, Managing Director of The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC) and Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, underscored the importance of a holistic approach to advancing energy security and transition in Africa. He highlighted the abundance of conventional energy sources in Africa, emphasizing their critical role in the region’s energy landscape both now and in the future.<\/p>\n

Okunbor stressed the significance of international partnerships and collaborations in accessing best practices, advanced technologies, and innovations to optimize operations and reduce emissions. He also highlighted the importance of sustainable financing mechanisms, such as impact investing and public-private partnerships, in funding clean energy projects, enhancing infrastructure, and supporting local capabilities.<\/p>\n

According to Okunbor, energy security, transition, and finance are central to addressing the challenges faced by the energy sector globally. He emphasized that secure and affordable access to energy is vital for economic growth and development, particularly in emerging economies like those in Africa.<\/p>\n

Discussing Shell’s role in Africa’s energy sector, Okunbor highlighted the company’s longstanding presence in various African countries, including Nigeria, Egypt, Namibia, Ghana, South Africa, and Tunisia. He cited Nigeria as an example, where Shell collaborates closely with the government, partners, and stakeholders to harness gas as a transition fuel, promote Nigerian content development, and deploy renewables for off-grid energy solutions.<\/p>\n
