In a bid to uphold safety and security standards within the Federal Capital Territory, the City Management Team of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) initiated a demolition exercise targeting illegal shanties and structures operated by Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.<\/p>\n
Led by Mukhtar Galadima, the director of the Department of Development Control, the team embarked on the operation, emphasizing the importance of BDC operators adhering to designated and licensed areas for their operations. Galadima underscored that the cleanup was essential to combat illegal activities that posed a significant security threat to residents in the area.<\/p>\n
“The area has become a hotbed for illegal activities, serving as a hideout for criminals and miscreants. Our objective is to restore order and ensure a serene environment befitting a capital city,” stated Galadima.<\/p>\n
Peter Olumuji, the secretary of the Command and Control Centre at the FCTA Department of Security Service, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the pivotal role of the demolition exercise in enhancing security. He emphasized that the location, known for its rampant criminal activities, posed a threat to residents and visitors alike, necessitating immediate action.<\/p>\n
“We have recovered weapons used by criminal elements operating in this area and have also witnessed drug-related incidents. It’s crucial to eliminate these hideouts to safeguard the well-being of the community,” remarked Olumuji.<\/p>\n
Deborah Osho, the Deputy Director of Operations at the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, expressed concerns over the congestion caused by BDC operators, stressing that the area was not designated for parking.<\/p>\n
