The Federal Ministry of Environment, represented by Mahmud Kambari, the Permanent Secretary, has called upon relevant stakeholders to address the annual erosion and flooding challenges plaguing the Trademore estate and other areas within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<\/p>\n
During a stakeholders\u2019 meeting convened to discuss the recurring flooding at the Lugbe Trademore estate and its environs in Abuja, Kambari emphasized the urgent need to tackle the constant flooding along River Pyakasa during the rainy season, which has significantly impacted Trademore estate and neighboring communities.<\/p>\n
Attributing the flooding to factors such as climate change, urbanization, undersized hydraulic structures, and siltation of hydraulic structures and the Pyakasa river, Kambari highlighted the detrimental effects on the economy, livelihoods, and the ecosystem of the FCT.<\/p>\n
Dilichukwu Etigbue, the Director of Erosion, Flood, and Coastal Zone Management at the ministry of environment, reiterated the importance of proactive measures to avert recurrence, including proper waste management and adherence to government directives.<\/p>\n
Abdul Abubakar, representing TradeMore estate residents, urged the government to take preemptive action ahead of the upcoming rainy season, expressing concerns about the potential consequences for residents.<\/p>\n
