MTN subscribers across Nigeria are currently grappling with a widespread network outage, rendering them unable to make or receive calls and access the internet through the telecommunications service. The disruption is attributed to a significant network challenge encountered by MTN.<\/p>\n
In response to the outage, MTN issued a statement on Wednesday night, citing multiple fibre cuts as the root cause of the service disruption affecting both voice and data services. The telecommunications provider assured subscribers that its engineering team is diligently working to address the issue, with services gradually being restored in some areas.<\/p>\n
“We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience and understanding as the team works to restore full service as soon as possible,” MTN stated, acknowledging the frustration experienced by its customers due to the disruption in service.<\/p>\n
The network outage comes at a critical time when the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reiterated its directive for telecom operators to disconnect telephone subscribers who have not linked their National Identification Numbers (NIN) to their SIM cards by February 28, 2024.<\/p>\n
During the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair, Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, reaffirmed the deadline, emphasizing the importance of compliance with the NIN-SIM linkage directive. He underscored the NCC’s directive to telecom operators to disconnect phone lines of subscribers who have failed to complete the NIN-SIM registration process by the stipulated deadline.<\/p>\n
