The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has opted to suspend street actions for the second day of its nationwide protest following an emergency meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC). The decision comes after a review of the resounding success achieved on the first day of the protest.<\/p>\n

Describing the initial protest as overwhelmingly successful, the NLC declared that it had already accomplished the primary objectives set for the two-day demonstration within the first day itself. As a result, the NEC deemed it appropriate to halt street demonstrations temporarily.<\/p>\n

However, the NLC remains resolute in its demands, announcing plans to continue the protest through simultaneous Press Conferences across all states of the federation, including the National Headquarters. This shift in strategy aims to sustain momentum and amplify the union’s message to a broader audience.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the NEC reaffirmed and extended the deadline for the government to act on their demands. The 7-day ultimatum, initially set to expire on a specific date, has now been extended by another 7 days, with a new deadline set for March 13, 2024. During this period, the government is expected to implement all previously agreed-upon resolutions and address the NLC’s demands presented to the National Assembly during Tuesday’s nationwide protest.<\/p>\n
