Chairman of the NDLEA, Buba Marwa, revealed this groundbreaking operation during a press briefing in Lagos. The heroin, concealed within 15 cartons of 2300-watt metal cutting machines, marked the largest-ever seizure of heroin at the airport. Marwa drew parallels to a previous significant seizure, citing the September 18, 2022, interception of 2,139.5 kilograms of cocaine in a warehouse in Ikorodu, Lagos. This cocaine seizure was deemed the most substantial in the history of the NDLEA.<\/p>\n
The recent operation unfolded with the interception of a suspicious package at the SAHCO Import Shed of the airport’s Cargo Terminal by NDLEA operatives. The concealed heroin, totaling 45 blocks with a weight of 49.70 kilograms, was meticulously uncovered from the metal cutting machine cartons. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Olowolagba Wasiu Babatunde, the freight agent involved in clearing services. Further unraveling the intricate web, it was discovered that he was hired by Mattpee Logistics, a company operated by an individual named Mr. Kola based in South Africa.<\/p>\n
