The Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, has taken proactive steps to prevent the potential hijacking of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) proposed nationwide protest by miscreants in the state. The protest is scheduled to take place on February 27th and 28th, 2024, across the country.<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, CP Danmamman directed the Department of Operations, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Division Police Officers (DPOs) to ensure visibility policing during the protest. The CP also ordered the deployment of sufficient police personnel and operational assets to dominate public places, emphasizing intelligence-led and visibility policing.<\/p>\n
The directive included specific instructions to safeguard critical infrastructures, government offices, banks, police stations, and other public assets to ensure public safety.<\/p>\n
The statement highlighted an earlier interaction between the CP and the intended protesters, where he emphasized their right to peaceful protest, which the police are obligated to protect. However, the CP stressed the importance of conducting all processions within the bounds of the law. He cautioned against violating the rights of others and urged protesters to behave in a civilized manner. The police assured their presence to provide security and quell any attempts to breach public peace.<\/p>\n
