{"id":20615,"date":"2024-02-22T15:03:34","date_gmt":"2024-02-22T15:03:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=20615"},"modified":"2024-02-22T15:03:34","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T15:03:34","slug":"abolish-dollar-use-in-nigeria-to-revamp-economy-nwoko-urges-tinubu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/02\/22\/abolish-dollar-use-in-nigeria-to-revamp-economy-nwoko-urges-tinubu\/","title":{"rendered":"Abolish Dollar Use In Nigeria To Revamp Economy \u2014 Nwoko Urges Tinubu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #252525;\">Senator Ned Nwoko has urged the administration of President Bola Tinubu to immediately abolish the use of the American\u00a0dollar and all other foreign currencies in Nigeria, as a means of tackling the current economic hardship faced by Nigerians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; background: white; margin-bottom: 1rem;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #252525;\">The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, who gave the charge while speaking with Journalists on the state of the nation, warned that until the naira was made the only legal tender in Nigeria, nothing much would be achieved from the country\u2019s monetary policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; background: white; margin-bottom: 1rem;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #252525;\">He<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #252525;\"> also called for the return of Nigeria\u2019s foreign reserve to the country, to be kept by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and disbursed to manufacturers to boost production, while charging the president to stand up and lead and not to worry about the US and UK but strive towards economic\u00a0independence, moving the country forward and meeting the yearnings\u00a0of the people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #252525;\">The legislator argued that when the use of foreign currencies was prohibited and payments for crude oil are done in naira, there would be demand for naira and its value would appreciate<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #252525;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #252525;\"> describing this agelong practice as insult for Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; background: white;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #252525;\">Nwoko stated that, if what the country has as foreign reserved was brought back to Nigeria, it would help resuscitate many moribund and ailing industries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0in; background: white; margin-bottom: 1rem;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif; color: #252525;\">\u201cWe just had a meeting with some European Union parliamentarians, I asked the one from Greece if they use the dollar, he said no, I also asked the one from Italy he said no.
