The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) witnessed the arrival of its first rainfall of the year 2024 in the early hours of Thursday, bringing a mix of relief and concern to residents across various areas.<\/p>\n
According to the report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the light rain began around 12:30 a.m., lasting approximately 25 minutes before subsiding at 12:55 a.m. Unlike typical early-season showers, this rain event was characterized by its absence of lightning, heavy winds, and thunderstorms.<\/p>\n
The rainfall was observed in several parts of the FCT, including Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, Garki in Abuja Municipal Area Council, Dutse, Zuba, Bwari, Gwagwalada, and Mararaba.<\/p>\n
Residents of these areas expressed varied sentiments in response to the unexpected rainfall. Mrs. Anna Jonah, a Kubwa resident, welcomed the rain as a temporary relief from the intense heatwave experienced in recent days. However, she expressed concern that the light nature of the rain might exacerbate the heat in the coming days, especially given recent predictions of delayed rainfall in the North-Central states by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).<\/p>\n
Lawal Sale, residing in Garki, noted that the rain brought a bit of respite from the scorching heat and even helped wash away accumulated dust on parked cars. However, he cautioned against premature agricultural activities, as the rainfall patterns may not be consistent.<\/p>\n
